For years the honest version of a Katy weekend involved a drive. If you wanted made-from-scratch pasta or a real cocktail list, you got in the car for CityCentre or Memorial. If you wanted a Saturday that started at a farmers market and ended somewhere with tablecloths, you built it out of two cities. Summer 2026 is the season that pattern quietly breaks.
The reason is not one big opening. It is a cluster of openings landing inside a two-mile radius of LaCenterra, plus a second cluster forming around Katy Mills, plus a third rhythm holding steady in Historic Downtown Katy. Put them on a map together and the shape of a Katy Saturday changes.
LaCenterra stops being a lunch stop
The headline opening is North Italia, which took over the former Baker Street Pub space at 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd., Suite A150, and opened on June 10, 2026. The Katy restaurant is the fourth Greater Houston location for the concept, joining The Woodlands, CityCentre, and BLVD Place. That last detail is the one to sit with. Until this month, Katy residents who wanted this particular restaurant drove to one of those three addresses. Now they walk from a parking space they were going to use anyway.
The build tells you how seriously the operator took the site. Construction on the roughly 9,000-square-foot space began in November 2025 behind a $1.87 million renovation, and staffing began well before the doors opened. The center itself pulls an estimated 5.2 million visits a year and hosts around 200 community events, which is the reason a national operator committed that kind of capital to a suburban shopping district instead of Uptown. North Italia now sits alongside Perry's Steakhouse, Postino, Ambriza, Dish Society, and Gelato & Co., which is a very different roster than LaCenterra held even two summers ago.
The Katy Mills side of town gets a real dining floor
Katy Mills has always been the outlet run. The 175-store lineup still includes Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach Outlet, and H&M, and none of that changes. What changes is what happens between shopping and driving home.
Two new food tenants, Ciccio's Pasta and La Crep'n Go, joined the mall's dining lineup in 2026. Behind them, P.F. Chang's has filed plans for a nearly $3.8 million renovation of an existing tenant space at Katy Mills, with construction slated to begin in early 2026 and a projected completion later in the year. Also in the pipeline for Katy: Melt N Dip, an international dessert café built around Belgian chocolate crepes, waffles, and gelato, taking a 2,000-square-foot space that will be the brand's first Houston-area location. Nonno's Kitchen, a family-style Italian concept, is projected at 806 Katy Fort Bend Road. Aga's Restaurant & Catering, the 25-year-old Indian and Pakistani institution, confirmed a Katy take-out location in February.
The mall is not becoming a restaurant district. It is finally becoming a place where dinner after the outlet run is a real choice instead of a chain default.
Historic Downtown Katy holds the ritual layer
While the two commercial corridors add capacity, the older core keeps doing the work it has always done. Katy Market Day still runs the third Saturday of every month, March through December, at 904 Avenue C, with more than 65 vendors, food trucks, live music, art, and antiques. Circus on the Square lands at Katy Historic Town Square on June 20, 2026. A newer entrant, The Oaks Restaurant & Bar, is opening this spring with weekend brunch, monthly wine tastings, and a private event space, and co-owner Juliet Comer has been collecting menu feedback from residents on social media before the doors open.
The recurring rhythms are worth naming, because they are the connective tissue between the openings above.

- Every Tuesday — Fleet Feet Katy Running Club group run departing from LaCenterra

None of those are new. What is new is how they now bracket a growing list of full-service dining rooms rather than sitting between drive times to somewhere else.
The Typhoon Texas corridor keeps a tight summer calendar
South of I-10, Typhoon Texas Houston opened its 2026 season over Memorial Day weekend, May 23 to 24, with the Welcome Back Beach Bash at 555 Katy Fort Bend Road. The park sits on 25 acres with 30-plus water slides and the Lazy-T River, and the summer programming reads more like a small festival calendar than a waterpark schedule:
- June 17 — Foam-A-Palooza with foam cannons, DJ, and games
- June 18 — Movie Night featuring Disney's Lilo & Stitch, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
- June 21 — Father's Day, Dad enters free
- June 23 — Mermaid Day
- Wednesdays, June 24 through August 5 — Family Slide Nights
- August 4 and August 13 — additional in-park events
The Rainy Day Guarantee, which issues a complimentary return ticket if lightning shuts attractions during your visit, is worth knowing about before you commit to a July afternoon.
Two summers ago, a full Saturday in Katy meant stitching two towns together. This summer, the itinerary fits inside the ZIP code.
What this actually changes about a Saturday here
Take a concrete version. Yoga on the Green on Wednesday, Fleet Feet on Tuesday, and then a real Saturday: farmers market at Heritage Square in the late morning, lunch or a walk over to Central Green, an afternoon at Typhoon Texas or Mary Jo Peckham Park, a shower at home, and a 7:30 reservation at North Italia. That plan has been theoretically possible for a while. This summer is the first time every piece of it exists inside the same set of parking lots you already use.
The commercial side of the story matters for a slightly different reason. Texas Heritage Marketplace, the 165-acre mixed-use development near I-10 and Texas Heritage Parkway, is anchored by a Target Supercenter and is expected to bring more than 750,000 square feet of retail, dining, and green space, with tenant openings rolling out through 2026. Just west of Katy proper, Fulshear Central is scheduled to open its first phase in early 2026 along FM 1093 with restaurants, retail, and office uses arranged around walkable outdoor areas. A Grand Parkway frontage road expansion between Westheimer Parkway, Cinco Ranch Boulevard, Highland Knolls, and South Fry Road will reshape how these three nodes connect. None of those projects have to succeed for the summer itinerary above to work. They will, however, decide what a Katy Saturday looks like in 2028.
For homeowners already here, the more immediate read is quieter. The dining upgrades that have historically driven weekend drive-time out of Katy are, one by one, moving in. That does not change a mortgage. It changes the case you make to a friend who asks what it is actually like to live out here.
